These unique spider's webs were made by Uzu-gumo (Japanese common name), which means spiral spider. There are several kinds of Uzu-gumo, but I was not able to identify the exact name of this spider. Probably, the spider name is Octonoba varians, Octonoba sybotides, Octonoba sinensis, or Octonoba yesoensis. Their webs are very beautiful and impressive.
This is a kind of long-horned beetle that I found in Fukuoka, Kyushu, Japan. Japanese name of this beetle is Yotsu-suji-tora-kamikiri, which means tiger-like looking long-horned beetle with four lines. This beetle looks like a bee called Yellow jacket, which has poison. This looking protects this beetle from its predators. Scientific name of this beetle is Chlorophorus quinquefasciatus. It distributes in the main island and south part of Japan, and also in Korea and Taiwan.
This is the closest family member of Asian long-horned beetle. Japanese name is Gomadara-kamikiri. Its scientific name is Anoplophora malasiaca. Asian long-horned beetle is native to China, but this long-horned beetle is native to Japan. I saw this long-horned beetle in Fukuoka, Kyushu, Japan. It damages trees, but it is beautiful.
I went to Fukuoka, Kyushu, Japan. I saw lots of Kuma-zemi singing. Scientific name of Kuma-zemi is Cryptotympana facialis. This cicada only distributes in Japan, especially west side of Japan. Since I have lived in east side of Japan, this was the first time for me to see the cicada. This cicada is the second biggest cicada in Japan. A cicada in the central photo is female, since she has a big ovipositor. A cicada in the left photo is male. I did not know, but only male cicadas sing generaly. Did you know that?
